“nVent’s culture appeals specifically to veterans because they have the same values that the military instills in its service members.”

When Maryann, a proud Army veteran and HR Business Partner (HRBP) for nVent’s Electrical & Fastening Solutions business segment based in Aberdeen, North Carolina, stepped into nVent for her in-person interview, she immediately knew it was where she wanted to build her future. “I chose to join nVent because of the values and culture. As soon as I came in for the in-person interview and met the team, I knew this is where I want to work,” she reflects.

Maryann immediately sensed a familiarity between the military and our company. “nVent’s culture appeals specifically to veterans because they have the same values that the military instills in its service members,” she shared. She also noted that seeing nVent’s participation in community service programs solidified her decision to join our team. “I saw that the Aberdeen campus was involved in Toys for Tots, which is a U.S. Marine foundation in which I have participated in for several years while in the U.S. Army,” Maryann continued.

nVent’s Win Right value of Respect and Teamwork was another aspect that deeply resonated with Maryann because it was foundational in her military career. “The military taught me that respect is essential for effective teamwork,” she comments, emphasizing the significance of diverse skills and perspectives in fostering a positive work culture.

From her military service as a 42A Human Resources Specialist, Maryann brings a wealth of transferable skills including leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability to nVent. “These are core skills that can add an advantage to any organization,” she states, highlighting the importance of recognizing the value veterans can bring to the civilian workforce.

Maryann’s transition from military to civilian life was guided by three principles: clarity, credibility, and consistency. These principles not only helped her integrate her military service into her personal and professional brand but also ensured she remained true to her values. “Clarity on my values and what I stand for aligns with the military and nVent’s values. I gain credibility by my actions which align with my values. Finally, consistency – which is key to success, I am consistent in what I say and do,” she elaborates.

At nVent, Maryann found a culture that not only respected her background and skills but also encouraged her to bring bold ideas to the table. To her, being authentic means “being your true self, and living your life in accordance with your values, beliefs, and your personality.” This authenticity is crucial for building a sustainable future, a vision she and nVent share deeply.

What sets nVent apart for Maryann is its unique, inclusive culture where employees feel valued and a sense of belonging from day one. “nVent doesn’t just say they appreciate you, they show it,” she says, pointing out the company’s efforts in celebrating diversity and individual achievements through its recognition platform called Electrify.

The support system at nVent, particularly for veterans, has been invaluable to Maryann. The Veterans ERG (Employee Resource Group) offered mentorship and networking opportunities that eased her transition and integration into the company. “I met other HRBPs from different locations who helped me with my onboarding and trained me with the processes and policies of HR,” she shares, underscoring the importance of a supportive community.

For veterans transitioning to the civilian workforce, Maryann offers sage advice: prepare in advance, use resources like the Transition Assistance Program (TAP), and leverage platforms like LinkedIn for networking and job search. “Understand how to translate military skills to a civilian resume,” she advises, ensuring others can navigate their transitions as smoothly as she did.

Maryann’s story is a testament to the seamless integration of military values into the corporate world, where leadership, teamwork, and adaptability are not just welcomed but celebrated. At nVent, she found a place where her past and present could converge, creating a future where both she and the company can continue to grow.
